Beyond Traditional Counseling

Beyond Traditional Counseling

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful form of psychotherapy that integrates successful elements from a wide range of therapeutic disciplines.

At The Dominic Beirne School of Hypnosis & Psychotherapy, we teach you to combine rhythmical stimulation with focused awareness to help the mind/body system process information rapidly.

Full Course Curriculum

Master the 8-phase EMDR protocol and learn how to integrate these techniques into your existing practice for maximum emotional wellbeing.

Phase 1: History & Treatment Planning

Assessing client readiness and identifying traumatic targets, including past memories and current triggers.

Phase 2: Preparation & Stabilization

Developing self-calming techniques and ensuring the client has a "safe place" for emotional regulation.

Phase 3: Assessment

Accessing the target memory and identifying negative beliefs, positive goals, and physical sensations.

Phase 4: Desensitization

Using bilateral stimulation to reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories.

Phase 5: Installation

Strengthening positive beliefs and self-concept as they relate to the processed target.

Phase 6: Body Scan

Identifying and resolving any lingering physical tension associated with the memory.

Phase 7: Closure

Ensuring client safety at the end of every session, whether the processing is complete or incomplete.

Phase 8: Re-evaluation

Checking the maintenance of therapeutic gains and identifying new targets for processing.

Practical Skills Workshop

This course is highly experiential. You will participate in supervised practice sessions, role-playing both the practitioner and client roles to gain confidence in the application of the protocols.
